About the Portal

The federal credential required to access MOTUS.

The FMCSA Portal is the secure account every motor carrier must hold in order to access MOTUS — the new federal system through which all U.S. DOT filings are made. Setup involves multiple verification steps and is time-sensitive. Operating without active portal credentials means operating without access to U.S. DOT registration actions.

The MOTUS Transition

A new federal system. A non-negotiable requirement.

In 2026, the FMCSA is launching MOTUS — the single federal platform through which every U.S. DOT filing is processed. Access to MOTUS is granted exclusively through an active FMCSA Portal account. Carriers without verified portal credentials are unable to submit filings, register authority, or make changes to their operating record. Portal setup is detailed and time-sensitive.

Begin Application

Establish portal credentials before the May 14 deadline.

Submission takes a few minutes. Setup is initiated, monitored, and maintained from there.
